Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )

This is my third 1080P HDMI Transmitter and Receiver that I've reviewed as part of the Amazon Vine-Voices program. I evaluated it this time by plugging it into the 4K port of a USB Dual 4K/1080P HDMI video adapter. It worked fine, AND as expected, was delivering 1080P rather than 4K video. I ran this test in particular to confirm that there was NOT a problem caused by using a 4K capable HDMI output port. It passed with flying colors.

The only minor challenge I had was getting it to connect the first time. Of the three HDMI Transmitter and Receiver units I've evaluated, the first one and the third one needed to be manually reset (with a paperclip to push the reset button) so that it could initially connect. That is generally NOT a big deal, but if the receiver is plugged into the back of your TV and it's awkward to get to and find the hole for the paperclip, that can be a bit of a pain.... However I found that as long as I left the USB end plugged in so that the device was powered, I could unplug it from the HDMI port, push the reset button for the prescribed amount of time (See the directions for the "Pairing" press duration vs. the "Reset" press duration) and then plug it back into the HDMI port, and it paired just fine.

While the Amazon product description pages headline states that it can work up to 50M (165FT) away, I don't have a practical way to do that...AND that distance is likely only in an unobstructed environment without walls, etc. "Nice feature" that should give one confidence that it SHOULD work anywhere in the (typical) house, but probably not a deal breaker!

The media could not be loaded.

I tested this wireless transmitter with a Sony FX3 cinema camera as the source and an Átomos Ninja V recorder monitor as the receiver. It connected after a few seconds of turning on and worked fine when in close proximity.

But once I put the camera with transmitter and monitor with receiver in different rooms and stood in between them with my body, I noticed that I was dropping frames because the video was freezing. It completely lost the signal at one point, and I saw the startup screen. I also saw some text at the bottom saying that it was switching Wi-Fi channels probably trying to find a better signal. I was about 30 feet away in different rooms and stood in between the transmitter and receiver. It did not perform reliably in that scenario.

There was only a short amount of delay with this system. If you plan on gaming, I’d probably recommend a wired setup for the lowest latency and not this wireless transmitter.

Overall I would recommend this system for wirelessly transmitting an HDMI signal within the same room with a clear line of sight. Once you start going through walls, objects, and human bodies the signal strength drops and so does the video.

Well this is not robust enough for commercial use this thing is the easiest to use that I’ve ever seen. I think even my parents could figure it out. It’s certainly the simplest in design two as there are new parts to lose or plugs to fit. You have a single piece transmitter and receiver with the power built-in and it is absolutely plug-and-play. I got an excellent clean signal as long as you have line of sight. I’m not sure you’re going through a lot of walls with this one but I got a good 70 feet of wide open signal.

I’m gonna go ahead and give it five stars though I do have one concern and that is this thing it’s a little hot. This will tend to shorten your lifespan of electronic components but I guess I’ll have to use it a lot to make sure. I would imagine you would want to use it in a cooler environment or have some kind of fan or airflow around it as it does get pretty warm.

I didn’t notice a whole lot of latency but I wasn’t playing video games with it. Usually these have a bit of latency and I don’t believe there’s anything to configure such as a low latency mode or anything. But if you need a simple no-frills wireless connection and you have a line of sight this is one of the cheaper ones that is the easiest to use. And it’s worked for two whole straight days for me i’ve been running my media center off of it from down the hall. Normally the media center is right next to the TV but I moved it for testing purposes. I can imagine this would have a variety of uses including being able to use a raspberry pie on the road with a mobile monitor. I love gadgets like this and this one has been working well. So if you have the ability to cool it off and you have no need of zero latency I think this will work.

The device took several minutes to establish a connection and worked okay until I moved it behind my PC tower under my desk. The transmitter and receiver can't establish a link with only 10ft and the particle board of my desk separating them. I can't fathom how they figure 165ft is feasible with this thing since it has no external antennas and most displays and devices will block line of sight as the HDMI ports are on the back. Returning and looking for alternatives.
